INGREDIENTS

1 pound bulk mild Italian sausage

1 1/4 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes

4 slices bacon, cut into 1/2 inch pieces

1 large onion, diced

1 tablespoon minced garlic

5 (13.75 ounces) can chicken broth

6 potatoes, thinly sliced

1 cup heavy cream

1/4 bunch fresh spinach, tough stems removed

How to make Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana

Step 1: In a dutch oven, cook the Italian sausage and red pepper flakes over medium-high heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until browned, crumbly, and no longer pink. Once done, drain and set aside.

Step 2: In the same dutch oven, cook the bacon over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until crisp. Drain the excess oil but leave a few tablespoons of the drippings with the bacon. Then, stir in the onions and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes or until the onions are soft and translucent.

Step 3: In the dutch oven with the bacon and onion mixture, pour the chicken broth and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, add in the potatoes and boil for another 20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Step 4: Adjust the heat to medium before stirring in the heavy cream and the cooked sauce. Cook until heated through. Then, add in the spinach before serving.
