A classic recipe of one of the most loved and the number one comfort food in the world – Lasagna. It is loaded with amazing layers of beef, noodles, and cheeses and baked to perfection. This pasta dish will never go out of style, still the number one after all these years.
1 pound sweet Italian turkey sausage
3/4 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
two 6 ounce cans tomato paste
two 6.5 ounce cans canned tomato sauce (or one 15 oz. can)
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons sugar (optional)
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds (optional)
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, divided
12 lasagna noodles, regular or no-cook. I usually use no-cook noodles.
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
3/4 cups grated Parmesan cheese
HOW TO MAKE WORLD’S BEST LASAGNA
Step 1: Cook the sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic in a large dutch oven over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
Step 2: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water.
Step 3: At this point, you can add the sugar, basil, fennel seeds (if using), Italian seasoning, 2 tablespoons of salt and pepper, and 2 tablespoons of parsley. Mix to combine.
Step 4: Cover and let it simmer for about 1 1/2 hours while occasionally stirring. You can simmer for as long as possible.
Step 5: In case you are using regular lasagna noodles, cook them according to package directions and drain.
Step 6: Stir the ricotta cheese, egg, the rest of the parsley, and half teaspoon salt in a bowl.
Step 7: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375 degrees F.
Step 8: To make the layer, first pour a half cup of the lasagna sauce in the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and spread evenly. Then, for the next layer, arrange the noodles over and spread with half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top it with the mozzarella cheese and lastly sprinkle with 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese.
Step 9: Place another layer of meat sauce about 1 1/2 cups over the cheese.
Step 10: Then, arrange another layer of noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture on top, the rest of the mozzarella, and 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese.
Step 11: Top again with 1 1/2 cups of the sauce, then, the last layer of noodles.
Step 12: Place on top of the noodles another 1 1/2 cups of sauce and the rest of the mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
Step 13: Cover the dish with foil before placing inside the preheated oven to bake for 25 minutes.
Step 14: After 25 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for another 25 minutes.
Step 15: Once done, remove from the oven and let the lasagna cool for 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
